Installing on Linux

The Linux version is the `cnb` command line plus a web UI reachable only from the local machine. It installs per user and needs no root.

Install

  1. On the download page, choose Linux · x86_64, download the package and verify its SHA-256.
  2. Extract it and run the install script; the program installs into ~/.local.
  3. Make sure ~/.local/bin is on your PATH:
bash
echo $PATH | tr ':' '\n' | grep -q "$HOME/.local/bin" || echo 'export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"' >> ~/.bashrc

First run

bash
cnb daemon # start the local host (runs in the background by default)
cnb login --email you@example.com
cnb connect # connect and print the actual port and environment variables
eval "$(cnb env)" # set the proxy variables in the current shell

Graphical interface

bash
cnb web # print a one-time login link for the local web UI

The web UI only accepts connections from the local machine. On a server, forward it with ssh -L; see Local web UI.

TUN mode

TUN requires installing the system helper separately (root once). Without TUN, the whole client runs without root.
